Dr James Davidson
Senior Team Leader,
Medicinal & Computational Chemistry
James studied for a first degree in chemistry at Leeds University, and then went on to obtain his Ph.D. at Cambridge – working on medium-ring ether natural product synthesis under the guidance of Prof. Andy Holmes. For the last 18 years James has worked as a medicinal chemist across a range of therapeutic areas and targets, including anxiety and depression (GABAA chloride channels); obesity (5-HT2C agonists, CB1 antagonists); and numerous families of cancer targets (ATPases, kinases, proteases, and protein-protein interaction targets). James is currently focused on using structure-based knowledge to design protein-protein interaction inhibitors; and on implementing cheminformatics systems that aid decision-making at various stages of drug discovery.
